Why Redding homeowners call us
I trace the air leaks myself
I come out in person and find where your house is losing air before suggesting anything, so you pay for what your home needs and nothing it doesn't.
Repairs and sealing come first
We fix leaks and close the gaps where air gets through before new insulation goes in, because insulation laid over a draft or a wet spot can't do its job.
Problems named before we start
If I spot old vermiculite, a roof leak, old wiring or a gas appliance that needs a look, I tell you plainly and we plan around it first.

Redding's summer heat and wet winters
Redding is the Shasta County city on the Sacramento River, and it adopts the state building codes with its own changes, so the rules for work on your house come through the city. Summers here bring more than 39 days a year at 100 degrees or higher, and about 33.6 inches of rain falls in a normal year, two-thirds of it from December through March. That's hard on a house from both ends, with an attic that bakes for months and a crawl space that can stay damp all winter.
If you live here, you know the Sundial Bridge over the river, the hands-on learning at Turtle Bay Exploration Park and the play areas and picnic spots at Caldwell Park. We're based in Redding too, and a lot of the calls we get here come down to the same two complaints, an upstairs that won't cool off in summer and floors that run cold once the rain starts.

Tell us which rooms won't stay comfortable
We reply to every call and form within one business day, and there's no pressure and no obligation. I'll set a time to come out myself, look through the attic, crawl space or walls with you and then give you a free written estimate.
About A&M Redding Insulation Services
A&M Redding Insulation Services is an insulation contractor based in Redding, CA, and I started it here in 2020 after learning the trade on an insulation crew. I got into this work after spending months figuring out why two rooms in my own house wouldn't hold their temperature, and that puzzle is still the part I like best. We're licensed and fully insured, and we offer 16 services, with most calls coming from uncomfortable rooms, older houses and a few local businesses. You can read more about how I got into insulation and how we work.
Insulation contractor services in Redding, CA
A&M Redding Insulation Services is an insulation contractor in Redding, CA, with 16 services for drafty rooms, a hot upstairs and cold floors. Price and schedule usually turn on the size of the space, how hard it is to reach, whether old insulation comes out first and whether a permit is needed. Your written estimate gives you your own figure.

Spray foam insulation
We spray foam into rooflines and walls, where it fills the gaps and seals air as it insulates, though it costs more than loose fill.

Attic insulation
If the upstairs runs hot or your power bill climbs, we seal the attic floor and bring the insulation to an even depth, edges included.

Blown-in insulation
Blown-in insulation is loose fill we blow through a hose over the attic floor or into walls, the usual way to top up thin coverage.

Home insulation
For a whole house, we look at the attic, walls and crawl space together and insulate them in the order that does the most good.

Insulation removal
When old insulation is soaked, flattened or full of droppings, we pull it out and clean up, so new material doesn't sit on the problem.

Crawl space insulation
Cold floors usually mean the crawl space below has little or no insulation, so we fit it between the floor framing from underneath.

Wall insulation
We fill empty or thinly insulated walls in finished rooms through small holes we patch afterward, so you don't have to open up the drywall.

Air sealing services
We close the gaps around pipes, wires, outlets and doors that let air leak through, so drafts stop and your insulation can work.

Basement insulation
We insulate basement walls and the framing on top of them, so a finished basement or storage room stops running cold.

Closed-cell foam insulation
Closed-cell foam is dense foam that also blocks moisture, so we use it where dampness is a concern, like crawl space and basement walls.

Open-cell foam insulation
We spray open-cell foam, a softer and lighter foam, into rooflines and interior walls where it fills odd shapes and cuts down on noise.

Commercial insulation
We insulate offices, shops and other small commercial buildings for local business owners who want steadier temperatures and lower power bills.

Crawl space vapor barrier
We lay heavy plastic over the crawl space dirt, overlapped and sealed at the seams, to keep ground moisture away from the framing above.

Vapor barrier installation
A vapor barrier is a sheet that slows moisture moving through walls, ceilings or floors, and we install it where damp air would reach the insulation.

Attic air sealing
Before adding insulation upstairs, we seal around can lights, pipes, wires and the attic hatch, because new insulation over open gaps still lets the draft through.

Retrofit insulation
Retrofit insulation is new insulation added to a finished house through the attic, walls and floors, for owners fixing up a house that never had enough.

What happens after you call
Call or send the form
Call (530) 232-9176 or send the form and tell us what's going on, whether it's a room that won't hold its temperature, a hot upstairs or cold floors in winter. We reply to every call and form within one business day to set up a time to come out.
I look and explain the order
I come out myself and go through the attic, crawl space or walls with you, noting what I find and where air is getting in. I'll explain the order the work should go in, then you get a free written estimate, with no pressure and no obligation.
We set a date and do the work
When you're ready, we pick a date. We check with the building office that covers your address, and if a permit is needed we handle the application and set up the inspections with you. Our installers then do the repairs and sealing first and the insulation after.
We walk through it together
When the installers finish, I come back and check the work with you before we call it done, so you can see the sealing, the coverage and the cleanup for yourself. Ask about anything you see, and I'll explain what we did and why.
Your insulation questions answered
How much does it cost to insulate an attic in Redding?
It depends mostly on how big the attic is, how easy it is to get around in and whether old insulation has to come out before anything new goes in. How much sealing it needs, how many inches are already up there and the material you choose move the price too. Your free written estimate gives you the figure for your house.
Is spray foam worth the extra cost over blown-in insulation?
For a plain attic, usually not, because sealing the gaps and topping up loose fill does most of the work for less. Foam costs more but seals air while it insulates, so it starts to make sense when your ductwork runs through the attic. I'll tell you which one fits once I've seen the space.
How long does attic insulation take, and do we have to leave the house?
It depends on the size of the attic and how much removal and sealing comes first, and with blown-in insulation you can usually stay home while we work. Spray foam is different because it has a re-entry time, the wait before it's safe for you, the kids and pets to come back in, and I'll go over that for your job before we schedule it.
Does an insulation contractor in California need a license?
Yes, for most jobs. In California, anyone who contracts for work that needs a building permit, uses employee labor or comes to $1,000 or more in labor and materials must hold a current license from the state licensing board, and splitting a bigger job into smaller pieces doesn't get around that. We're licensed and fully insured.
Should you air seal before adding insulation in the attic?
Yes, because gaps around can lights, pipes, wires and the hatch keep pulling air through new insulation if they're left open. We seal those first and keep the vents at the edges of the roof clear, so the attic can still breathe and moisture doesn't build up in the framing.
Is your insulation work guaranteed?
Yes, our work is backed by our satisfaction guarantee. That starts before the work does, because I'd rather tell you a job isn't worth doing yet than sell you something that won't help.
Can new insulation go on top of the old insulation in my attic?
Often it can, if the old insulation is dry, clean and just thin. If it's been soaked or is full of droppings, it should come out first, because new material laid over it keeps the problem in your attic. Either way, the new layer should be as deep at the edges as in the middle, which is where a lot of attics come up short.
Does my crawl space in Redding need a vapor barrier?
Often yes, when the crawl space floor is bare dirt, because moisture from our wet winters rises off the ground into the framing and insulation above. I'll look for damp soil, staining and sagging insulation when I'm down there and tell you if a barrier is worth doing yet.
