How I ended up in other people's attics
Before this I ran a small print shop. Then two rooms in my own house wouldn't hold their temperature, and I spent months working out why. That puzzle pulled me into insulation, so I learned the trade on an insulation crew and started A&M Redding Insulation Services here in Redding in 2020.
Redding gets over 39 days a year at 100 degrees or more, so a lot of our calls are about a room that's hot upstairs or the room over the garage that never cools off. I still like the older houses best, because the obvious answer usually isn't the real one. I'd rather tell you a job isn't worth doing yet than sell you something that won't help. What you can expect when we work on your house
I find where the air gets out first
I come out myself, look through the attic and crawl space, and find where your house is really losing air before I suggest adding anything, so you pay for what it actually needs. When our installers finish, I go over the job with you before we call it done.
Repairs and sealing come before insulation
We make repairs first, then do the air sealing, closing the gaps around lights, pipes and the attic hatch, because new insulation over a draft or over old wet material just hides the problem. Doing it in that order is what lets the money you put into insulation do its job.
You hear about trouble before we start
If we find old vermiculite, a roof leak, old wiring or gas appliances that need a look, we tell you plainly and plan around it before any work begins. That way it's part of the plan instead of a surprise halfway through.
Our license, insurance and permits
California contractor license
In California, anyone who contracts for work that needs a building permit, uses hired workers or runs $1,000 or more in combined labor and materials has to hold a current license from the state licensing board. We're licensed and fully insured.
Permits for your address
Before we start, we check with the building office that covers your address, which in Redding is the city's permit center. When a permit is needed, we handle the application and set up the inspections with you.
